Recognise – Do you get junk mail, flyers, leaflets and business magazines and other stuff you don’t want? Then recognise the fact you are being sent waste and react!
React – Don’t throw ANY unwanted mail in the bin! Open it, take out the ordinary paper for the Paper Planet bin, and put all the glossy bits, magazines and ALL the envelopes into the magazines recycling bins as you go home! Or even easier reduce!
Reduce – Much better than recycling – just find the return address, tell them you don’t want their junk and save all that effort! Simple and effective!
The charts show only part of the genuine success you have achieved through your efforts in recycling paper, cardboard, cups and the many other ways in which you support the effort to reduce the impacts we have on the environment.

For a number of years, trees have been planted on our behalf by the company that recycles our paper, and a little applied ingenuity has led to animal shelters benefiting from sheepskin offcuts etc.
However, most will appreciate what is meant by the phrase ‘a picture is worth a thousand words' or one of the variations such as "A look, which said as plainly as a thousand words".
Take a look at the picture of one of our old parachutes being “recycled” and judge the benefits of recycling for yourself.
 |
The parachute is mainly used as part of PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education).
There are all sorts of circle games to be played with the parachute, but first you have to learn to work as a team to get it off the ground! |
Children learn many things including:
* following instructions
* team work
* sharing and taking turns
* responsibility and resilience as well as having fun
Working with the parachute keeps us active and healthy and aids physical development. The parachute also inspired Science and Design & Technology lessons.
And don’t forget, if we can’t recycle it here, maybe you can at home!
