The Enhanced Comfort Crew Seat has been designed and qualified by Martin Baker Aircraft Company Limited (MBA) in response to industry demand for a fully adjustable crew seat for civilian applications.

 

The seat combines state-of-the-art attenuation system technology, class leading adjustability and minimal mass into a single package.

 

The seat is qualified to TSO-C127a, and is currently fitted in the Sikorsky S92.

The seat features a high degree of adjustment to allow crew to adapt the seat to their exact requirements using easily accessible controls mounted on the seat.

Among the adjustable features are the headrest, TSO-C114 approved five point harness, armrests, thigh support, vertical height, fore/aft position, back recline angle and a fully adjustable lumbar support that offers an adaptable shape in addition toheight adjustment.

 

The standard upholstery is a hard wearing black fabric material with a next generation sitting cushion design based on ejection seat technology. Other upholstery andcushion types are available on request.

 

The seat is easily installed and removed using quick release attachments and has been designed to offer the maximum level of reliability to minimise maintenance tasks.

A relatively high percentage of helicopter crashes are survivable. This is especially true in modern helicopters with robust structures designed to survive the crash. However, the human body cannot tolerate the crash forces and accelerations. The back and neck are particularly vulnerable to major and often fatal injuries. Our patented crashworthy seat technologies offer reliable and proven solutions to this problem by attenuating crash energy so that forces and accelerations imposed on the seat occupant are below injury thresholds. In the process of attenuating energy, the seat strokes (moves downward) in a controlled fashion. The energy is attenuated by the seat structure over a longer time period and keeps it well below injury thresholds. Martin-Baker has developed the technology and design approach that not only attenuates these loads over a broad weight range, but remains lightweight and affordable.
