The Martin-Baker Water Activated Release System (MWARS) is the next generation release fitting for the simplified combined restraint harness.
Providing a single, central closure for the restraint harness, MWARS provides all the manual functionality of the existing Martin-Baker quick release fitting currently in service. In keeping with the continued drive to ensure post-ejection aircrew survivability the MWARS incorporates an automatic activation mode – releasing the crewmember from the harness and parachute assembly on immersion in both fresh and seawater.
MWARS draws on existing water activation hardware from the Automatic Life Preserver, and Life Raft Inflation Units (ALPIU & ALIU) already provided by Martin-Baker throughout the world. The unit also provides a Built-In-Test (BIT) facility, allowing ground crew to confirm the operation of MWARS in line with regular maintenance.
Through MWARS Martin-Baker combines the proven benefits of the simplified combined harness (arm restraints, single point closure, etc.) together with the automatic activation technology to assist unconscious, injured or exhausted aircrew to survive an emergency escape, after descent into water. |
